Dry firing a bow is bad because when it happens, the bow vibrates intensely, which causes damage to the bow. This can completely ruin its cams, limbs, string, and more. Samick does offer replacements limbs/strings though, so even if you leave it strung and something happens, you can easily replace the affected part. I personally unstring my Samick Sage when I’m done using it, but I keep the limbs screwed in.
Do crossbows lose power over time?
We could talk about specifics and comparisons all day long, but the bottom line is: Compared to heavier and longer arrows from vertical bows, crossbow arrows drop like a rock and lose energy quickly after leaving the rail. It takes energy to kill game at long distances, and crossbow arrows simply do not have it.
How long does a compound bow arrow last?
Most hunting arrows can last 20, 30 or even 40 years or more! The lifespan of an arrow is based on the hunters ability to care for it. Keep your arrows out of the sun and don’t shoot them into hard surfaces that can break them. Shooting a damaged arrow is really dangerous and can impale the bow arm of the archer.

Any type of bow can be dry fired, including crossbows. A dry fire can happen accidentally if your arrow isn’t properly nocked or if your fingers slip on the string.

Most trad archers should leave them strung though if they don’t have a stringer. I used one once and it ’bout scared the heck out of me. Why use fiberglass over wood for a bow?
The main reason for using fiberglass with wood is because it is a very flexible material and not as susceptible to fatigue from repeated bending as wood. If you keep a wood composite bow strung, the same break-down mechanism is at work as with an all-wood bow.
Do you unstring your bow after every shoot?
As I was just chewed out by Whip for leaving my bow strung all the time, and hearing stories of guys who unstring their bow after every shoot, I called Beth Windauer of Schaffer Silvertip bows. They recommend the bows be left strung unless they are stored in a hot car or something.
