How long do NICS appeals take?

How Long Does it Take? The process can take anywhere from 2 to 12 months, depending on whether you have already successfully appealed a wrongful firearm delay or denial through NICS. Much of the delay is due to the extremely high volume of appeal and VAF requests that NICS is currently processing.

What happens to guns seized by ATF?

The firearm was seized by ATF, forfeited federally and will be disposed of by ATF. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement to reduce violent crime.

The revised form is available to either download or order. Forms may also be ordered online or you may print the Form 4473 from ATF’s website and make copies as needed. Please note that all pages of the Form 4473 must be printed and retained as a part of your permanent records.

Reporting for Federal Firearms Licensees Any Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) who has knowledge of the theft or loss of any firearms from their inventory must report such theft or loss within 48 hours of discovery to ATF and to the local law enforcement agency.

In cases where all of your files of Forms 4473 are missing or stolen, you should promptly notify your local ATF field office of the loss or theft and get guidance on record reconstruction. If information is contained on a state firearms transfer document, do I still have to enter the same information on the ATF Form 4473?

ATF will work with the local law enforcement authorities investigating the theft. Third, complete the report form ( ATF Form 3310.11) and attach any continuation sheets necessary ( ATF Form 3310.11A) and mail it to ATF’s National Tracing Center.

Can I remove records from the premises during an ATF inspection?

It is standard procedure for ATF inspections to be conducted on the premises of the licensee being inspected; however, there may be some very rare instances when the ATF officer believes the inspection could be expedited by removing the records from the premises for review.
