How long should I prepare for SFAS?

It is specifically designed to fully prepare you to meet the physical challenges you will face at the US Army Special Forces selection and assessment course, and to avoid or overcome some of the challenges that have defeated some of those who have gone before you. This course is twelve weeks long.

How do you physically prepare for SFAS?

SFAS is all about time and moving to your points quickly. You need to be able to move out when you are in a time crunch or are stuck in a draw. To prepare, put 45 pounds in your ruck and move four miles as fast as you can. A good goal is to get four miles in less than 35 minutes.

In one class in SFAS, there was a senior NCO who came from an LRSU unit. He positively smoked every run and ruck march during the course. But instead of being in his unit where he was far out in front of every such event, in SFAS, among many equally impressive troops, he wasn’t.

Can a lone wolf make it in SFAS?

Lone Wolves don’t cut it in SFAS. You can ace every individual event but if you aren’t a team player, the cadre will notice and so will your peers. And peer evaluation can sink a soldier’s chances easily. Certain soldiers will have areas that they’re stronger in than their peers.
