How many courses can I take in MIT?
A typical course load is four to five courses each term. Freshmen are subject to a credit limit of no more than five courses, as they adjust to the pace and intensity of an MIT education. Upperclassmen are free to take as many courses as they like, with their academic advisor’s approval.
What is advanced standing exam?
Administered by the College Entrance Examination Board, this program enables high school students to take comprehensive examinations for credit at the college level.
Does MIT OpenCourseWare get credit?
Can I get credit or certification for learning with MIT OpenCourseWare? OCW does not offer any degree, credit or certification. For online courses with certificates of completion, visit MITx on edX. However, the high cost of video production means we can only provide video for some of the courses we publish.
Does MIT have nursing?

Do credits transfer to MIT?
You may request transfer credit for subjects taken before you arrived at MIT or while you were already enrolled as an MIT student. Each department has its own transfer credit examiner who can advise you on procedures and appropriateness. If there is no equivalent subject at MIT, the examiner may award elective credit.
What are standing credits?
Students are classified by year according to the number of degree credits they have earned:
- Freshman Standing (Level): fewer than 24 degree credits.
- Sophomore Standing (Level): at least 24 degree credits.
- Junior Standing (Level): at least 54 degree credits.
- Senior Standing (Level): at least 86 degree credits.
Does MIT offer credit?
MIT grants credit for a score of 5 on some College Board Advanced Placement (AP) exams. If you take an AP exam more than once, only your higher score will be counted. Credit is automatically recorded when scores are received from the College Board. See Reporting Your Scores below.
Does MIT accept high school college credit?

Is it possible to do ASE in MIT?
It is very much possible If you are majoring in Course 18 or 18C. MIT allows ASE for 5 Math courses 18.01, 18.02, 18.03, 18.06, and 18.600 (on request). Physics 2, Chemistry 1, Biology 1, and Computer Science 6.0001 – 0.5. Totaling 9.5 subjects one can ASE. You need remaining minimum 22.5 subjects to graduate.
What is the calculus policy for Advanced Placement and transfer credit?
Students with advanced placement, advanced standing, or transfer credit for 18.01 lose it if they take 18.01, and receive 3 units of elective credit if they take 18.01A. More detail on Calculus policies are available on the Department of Mathematics website.
How many units of elective credit do I get for Advanced Placement?
Students with advanced-placement or advanced-standing credit for 8.01 who elect to take 8.012 receive 6 units of elective credit in place of 8.01. The Communication Requirement makes the development of effective writing and speaking an integral part of undergraduate education at the Institute.
How many physical education courses do you need to take at MIT?
To satisfy the Physical Education Requirement, undergraduates entering MIT as first-year students must take four physical education and wellness courses (for eight points) and complete the swimming requirement. Transfer students need to complete four points (two courses) as well as the swimming requirement.
