How many days can you delay rabies vaccine?

If delay is 3-4 days from day 3 schedule (i.e. days 6-7 from start of vaccination) – day 3 dose shall be given upon visit, adjust succeeding doses (day 7 and 28) according to the prescribed interval. If delay is > 4 days from day 3 schedule (i.e. beyond day 7 from start of vaccination) -a new course shall be restarted.

Is 5 days too late for rabies vaccine?

Bites and verified exposures from wild animals should be treated as if the animal were rabid until rabies has been ruled out. Once a person develops rabies symptoms it is too late for treatment!

If the exposure occurred through contact (eg, bite, multiple scratches) with a healthy dog, cat, or ferret, and the animal is available for observation, rabies prophylaxis should generally be delayed while the animal is observed for 10 days.
