How many years IAS works as SDM?

After serving as an IAS officer for 6 years, including 2 years of the training period, a candidate is eligible to become a DM.

How many SDM are there in a district?

To maintain the general administration of the district there is one additional district magistrate and three sub-divisional magistrate for the assistance of district magistrate.

How is SDM selected?

SDM (Sub-Divisional Magistrate) is the first posting designation of an IAS officer selected through the UPSC Civil Services Exam. SDM is authorized by the Collector magistrate, tax inspector, and all tehsils or subdivisions will be under the control of the Subdivisional Magistrate.
