How much does SpaceX save by reusing Rockets?
The Space and Missiles Systems Center last year modified the contracts for SpaceX’s next two GPS III satellite launches to allow reuse, a move that the military estimated will save about $64 million. Notably, Space Force required that SpaceX use the same booster to launch SV05 that launched the SV04 satellite.
How close is SpaceX to Mars?
Gravity on Mars is about 38\% of that of Earth, so you would be able to lift heavy things and bound around. Furthermore, the day is remarkably close to that of Earth….Why Mars?
Diameter | 6,791 km / 4,220 mi |
---|---|
Avg Distance from Earth | 225Mkm / 140Mmi |
Age | 4.5 billion years |
What is the SpaceX program?
SpaceX was founded in 2002 by Elon Musk with the goal of reducing space transportation costs to enable the colonization of Mars. SpaceX manufactures the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launch vehicles, several rocket engines, Dragon cargo, crew spacecraft and Starlink communications satellites.
Will Elon Musk go to Mars himself?
SpaceX’s aspirational goal has been to land the first humans on Mars by 2024, but in October 2020 Elon Musk named 2024 as goal for an uncrewed mission. At the Axel Springer Award 2020 Elon Musk said that he is highly confident that the first crewed flights to Mars will happen in 2026.

What is SpaceX’s BFR?
The BFR (yes, it stands for what you think it stands for) is SpaceX’s next rocket after the Falcon Heavy that Musk said the company hopes will launch by the end of this year.
How many successful landings does SpaceX have?
As of the time of this presentation, SpaceX has had 16 successful landings and that is really without any redundancy. Falcon 9’s final landing is always done with a single engine whereas with BFR, we will always have multi-engine out capability. You want minimum pucker factor on landing—you need to be able to essentially count on the landing.
How big is the BFR?
The new BFR is 106 meters tall with a 9-meter diameter, down from the 122-meter height and 17-meter diameter described last year. The booster rocket uses 31 Raptor engines (down from 42), and there are six Raptor engines on the spacecraft itself (down from nine).
What is propulsive landing in BFR?
Propulsive landing is what we have been practicing with Falcon 9. As of the time of this presentation, SpaceX has had 16 successful landings and that is really without any redundancy. Falcon 9’s final landing is always done with a single engine whereas with BFR, we will always have multi-engine out capability.
