How tough is Basic Mountaineering course?

At most institutes, the Basic Mountaineering Course is intense and requires a decent level of fitness. Although they do not test your physical fitness as part of their routine, within the first few days, the ones who are underprepared back out on their own.

The trek in HMI goes on relatively higher altitude than NIM and are longer on everyday. Situated on higher altitude than NIM, the base camp of HMI offers more splendid view of surrounding peaks. The hostel of HMI and NIM are both well maintained and have all the required facilities.

The trainees of BMC spend initial 8 – 9 days at NIM Campus and Tekhla Rock area where they undergo physical conditioning, extensive rock climbing training, map reading, mountain weather, mountain health etc. Trainees thereafter spend next 13 – 14 days in the mountains.
