How would you describe the Bay Area?

The Bay Area (more fully, the San Francisco Bay Area), ringing the San Francisco Bay in northern California, is a geographically diverse and extensive metropolitan region that is home to over 7 million inhabitants in cities such as San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose.

Why is the Bay Area cool?

San Francisco also benefits from the contrast between the cold ocean current and the extreme heat of California’s Central Valley. The result is a pretty steady onshore flow of cool air, pulled in by the stifling hot air inland which rises. This also pulls the famous fog inland onto the city.

To the east, heat in the valley creates thinner air and low pressure. The valley becomes like a vacuum that wants to be filled by the heavier marine layer.
