Is Ash a version of Red?

Ash Ketchum, known as Satoshi (サトシ) in Japan, is a fictional character in the Pokémon franchise owned by Nintendo. He is loosely based on Red, the player character from the Generation I games Pokémon Red, Green, Blue and Yellow as well as the Generation III games Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen versions.

Is ash the same character as red in the anime?

No. Red is the protagonist of the 1st generation games (Red, Blue and Yellow) and he’s always portrayed as a silent character (then again most Pokemon games protagonists are silent). Ash / Satoshi is based on his design but is the protagonist of the anime. In short: they’re different characters.

What if red was ash’s dad?

Ash goes through his adventure with everyone being the same age the are when in the games, if Red was his dad (due the old anime actually planned on having aging) Team Rocket, Misty, Brock, and literally everyone would be older.
