Is associate higher than principal?

An associate consultant can also refer to a day rate contractor at any level, differentiating them from an employee of the firm (e.g. associate managing consultant). and some environmental consulting fields the term Associate consultant is used differently and is typically a higher grade than Principal consultant.

What does it mean to be a principal at BCG?

Principals provide the project management oversight required to meet client expectations. Responsibilities may include the development of presentations, managing of external relationships and consultant work progress, providing status reports, and overseeing budgets.

In BCG the structure looks like this (bottom-up): Junior associate (exists on certain markets only) Associate (McK – Business analyst; Bain – Associate consultant) Senior associate / junior consultant (McK – senior business analyst/junior associate; Bain – Senior associate consultant) Consultant (McK – associate; Bain – consultant).

What is the difference between analyst and associate at BCG?

Associate (McK and ATK) / Consultant (BCG and Bain): apart from being promoted from analyst, associates typically join after an MBA or relevant work. They usually own a stream/functional area of a project. They independently oversee the work of analysts and develop the project deliverables of their specific stream.

What is the difference between associate and principal and consultant?

It takes a minimum of 2 years as an Associate to become a Consultant. Given the above, I would say the functionality is pretty similar across Associate and Consultant because the difference in experience is not huge, whereas Principal is a much larger management role.
