As per the Quality Control Orders on Footwear Products issued by DPIIT, 27 footwear products have been brought under compulsory BIS certification with effect from 1 July 2021. BIS Certification is provided in India by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

BIS Certification enables the certificate holder to offer third party guarantee of quality, safety and reliability of products to the customers and is mainly required for import of items. While the certification has been voluntary, it was made mandatory by the Indian government for a number of items.

As per the Department of Electronics & Information Technology (Deity), there are no restrictions on goods imported by the end-user.
