Is further maths GCSE similar to a level maths?

No. It’s intended to bridge the gap between GCSE and A-level maths. You will be introduced to some concepts you’ll encounter at AS-level, with generally easier questions. If you do well in GCSE further maths, you will be put in good standing to do well at A-level maths.

Is GCSE harder than a level?

So yes, in essence, A-Level Maths is more difficult than GCSE Maths. It’s a step up in independency as you’re expected to learn content on your own. It’s also just generally harder content! The syllabus builds on and challenges GCSE Maths, and so you’ll find that it ramps up in difficulty as you progress.

Further Mathematics qualifications are highly regarded and are warmly welcomed by universities. Students who take Further Mathematics are really demonstrating a strong commitment to their studies, as well as learning mathematics that is very useful for any mathematically rich degree.

The only difference in average requirements for these courses is 1 GCSE grade. The minimum requirement for A-Level Maths is a 6 at GCSE compared to a 7 at GCSE for A-Level Further Maths.
