Is Hinduism a religion yes or no?

Hinduism is more than a religion. It is a culture, a way of life, and a code of behavior. This is reflected in a term Indians use to describe the Hindu religion: Sanatana Dharma, which means eternal faith, or the eternal way things are (truth). Unlike Buddhism, Jainism, or Sikhism, Hinduism has no historical founder.

Who is a Hindu according to Hindu law?

Any person who is born of Hindu parents (when both the parents or one of the parents is a Hindu, Jain, Sikh or Buddhist by religion) i.e. Hindus by birth. iii. Any person who is not a Muslim, Christian, Parsi or Jew and who is not governed. by any other law.

Can a Hindu convert to another religion?

In Hindu law a person who converts to another religion from Hinduism could not inherit from the Hindu relation. His/ her right of inheritance comes to end on conversion. This provision can also be called Freedom of Religion Act. The above rule has removed all the disabilities pertaining to the conversion of religion.

Is changing religion in India illegal?

No person shall convert or attempt to convert, either directly or otherwise any person from indigenous faith by use of force or by inducement or any fraudulent means nor shall any person abet any such conversion.

The Kerala High Court has ruled that in the absence of any formal ceremony for conversion to Hinduism, declaration by a person that he is converted to Hindu would be sufficient for the public authorities, the Marriage Registrar in the instant case, to act.
