Is IB good in Australia?

For decades, the Higher School Certificate has been the domain of NSW school-leavers. But the International Baccalaureate – which delivers a globally recognised educational qualification – has slowly increased its footprint in Australian schools as a credible alternative.

Does IB follow Australian curriculum?

Curriculum alignment Australia’s key documents reveal a national focus while the IB’s Diploma Programme (DP) has a global focus. However, the Diploma Programme’s core elements (extended essay, theory of knowledge, and creativity, action service project) merge well with content emphasized in the Australian curriculum.

Is IB harder than ATAR?

In the IB Diploma, subjects are not scaled. Instead, the IB gives a fantastic ATAR conversion regardless of the chosen subjects. In 2016, the IB state average among Australian students was 34.56. This is equivalent to an ATAR of 92.9!

How many IB students are there in Australia?

3,024 students
In Australasia (Australia, New Zealand, PNG and Fiji) 3,024 students sat for the IB Diploma from a total of 18,745 in the November 2019 examination session throughout the world.

Is IB or HSC harder?

Since you appear to be a very good student, do the IB. It is a very challenging programme, in my view. More challenging than the NSW HSC. But it seems to be a lot easier to achieve an ATAR of at least 99.80 via the IB than the HSC.

Do Australian universities accept IB diploma results?

Most Australian higher education institutions accept IB diploma results as an equivalent to an Australian Year 12 qualification, and students’ IB results will be used as a ranking system instead of an ATAR. In some cases, higher education institutions have a conversion scale in place to convert IB scores to ATAR.

What is the International Baccalaureate (IB) program?

Especially international students attending a High School in Australia, but also Australian students, can decide on passing the International Baccalaureate, which is internationally recognised. That is a five-year program for students aged between 11 and 16.

Given the rigorous, integrated nature of the IB curriculum, IB students are well prepared for university and will already be on an educational pathway consistent with UWA’s educational principles.

We believe it is important to accurately reflect IB scores in UWA admissions standards and have made significant adjustments to reflect the IB curriculum including students’ study of a second language and standard or higher-level mathematics.
