Is indie music still popular?

The indie pop genre has become arguably even more popular today with the use of indie pop songs on modern radio stations — even stations that claim to play only mainstream pop songs. Plenty of popular music today is actually indie music created by independent bands and artists.

Is Oasis an indie?

Oasis was British, but they were played on multiple radio stations here in America in the 1990’s. They were only “indie” to people who were unaware of what indie really was. I classify them as mainstream, but not Top 40 teenager music that has NO substance or depth.

How do I become an indie?

Being indie about music is about being open to new things.

  1. Do some research.
  2. Head down to your local record store, if it still exists.
  3. Talk to your friends about music.
  4. Get involved in your local music scene.
  5. Don’t worry about whether or not your tastes are popular or “indie enough.” Listen to what you love.

The indie pop genre is generally targeted at audience members at the age of 16-22. The reason it is becoming popular is due to the record labels releasing snippets of information about up coming artists and new songs to entice the audience to watch or listen to their music.
