Is ISL better than I-League?

The ISL is a highly commercial operation which attracts greater outside investment and yields larger revenues. Yet while I-League clubs have limited resources in comparison, their clubs do a much better job of connecting with the local populations.

What will happen to I-League?

In October 2019, the AIFF announced its new roadmap for Indian football that had the provision for the winners of the 2022-’23 and 2023-’24 I-League to be promoted into the ISL. ISL that was made the top tier of Indian football then was to have relegation from the 2024-’25 season onwards.

How do you qualify for I-League?

The top two teams from each group qualify for the Final Round, which is played in another round-robin format. Each of the four qualified teams play against each other once, and the team that finishes at the top of the pile in the Final Round, earns promotion to the next edition of the Hero I-League season.

Does FIFA Recognise ISL?

However, in June 2017, it was announced that the AFC, along with FIFA, would recognise the Indian Super League and allow clubs to participate in the AFC Cup starting in 2019. Bengaluru became the first Indian Super League club to play in Asian competition when they participated in the 2018 AFC Cup.
