Is OTS the same as basic training?
Officer Training School (OTS) (formerly known as Basic Officer Training (BOT) and later, Total Force Officer Training (TFOT)) is the more traditional 8-week pre-commissioning program. As of 2019, the class is an 8-week program and students are once again referred to as Officer Trainees.
Do you have to go to basic training before Air Force OTS?
Indeed. It involves physical training (it’s the military). When you join the Air Force with a college degree already in hand, you’ll go to Officer Training School ‘OTS’ (not BMT — enlisted personnel).
How hard is it to get accepted into Air Force OTS?
While it’s a great option the Air Force Academy is very difficult to gain admittance and requires a congressional endorsement. Those that attend the Air Force Academy receive a world-class education that is completely paid for by the government.
Do officers go to BMT?

Do you get paid in OTS?
The day you start OTS you will be a Staff Sergeant, which is pay grade E-5. The day you commission you will be separated as a Staff Sergeant and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, O-1. The 2017 base pay for an O-1, 2 or less TIS is: $3,034.80 per month (taxable).
Can you have your phone during OTS?

If the trainee entered OTS as an active-duty applicant and is not being eliminated for failure to meet military standards, the trainee is reassigned to another military unit for service. If, however, the trainee is being eliminated for failing to meet military standards, she will be considered for discharge.
What is MEPS?
MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Stations) are facilities of a Department of Defense joint-service organization staffed with military and civilian professionals. MEPS determines applicant’s physical qualifications, aptitude and moral standards as set by each branch of military service.
