Is Pran number Same for APY and NPS?

NPS is managed by PFRDA. The APY scheme is administered by the PFRDA/Government. In case of NPS, you will get the unique Permanent Retirement Number (PRAN). There is no such facility in APY.

What should a person do if he has two Pran numbers one from NPS and the other from APY?

If in case, you have two PRANs, you need to inform CRA about the same. You need to send in a deactivation request of any one of the PRAN to CRA.

Can husband and wife both apply for Atal Pension Yojana?

The Pension Fund Regulatory & Development Authority said “For availing the higher pensions up to Rs 10,000 both husband & wife can join the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) for Rs 5,000 pension amount”. Atal Pension Yojana is a pension scheme mainly for the unorganized sector like workers, maids, gardeners & poor people.

How can I merge two Pran accounts?

  1. You need to submit an application to your PoP/PoP-SP to deactivate the NPS Tier-I account (that you want to close) and merge the corpuses into NPS Account (that you want to retain).
  2. If you opened your account through eNPS, you can directly write to CRA (NSDL or Karvy).

What is tier2 in NPS?

Tier I account is the default account that gets opened when you open an NPS account. Tier II, on the other hand, is a voluntary account. When you invest here, it gets invested in different funds – similar to a mutual fund. There is no lock-in period, which means the account holder can withdraw the money any time.
