Is SASR a Tier 1?

The SASR and Australian Commandos are sometimes referred to as ‘Tier 1’ SF units because they are the units usually tasked with direct action. Other special operations forces are referred to as ‘Tier 2’ units as they, usually, fulfil a supporting role for the Tier 1 units.

Is SAS better than DevGru?

Their TTPs are classified, but SAS is more on the level of CAG/SFOD-Delta or DevGru than the so-called “vanilla” SEAL teams. So in theory, SAS is better trained, and more diversely trained, than regular SEALs.

  • 24th Special Tactics Squadron.

How many tactical assault groups does the SAS have?

Today, Tactical Assault Group is divided into two tactical assault groups, TAG East and TAG West. Australia got their own Special Air Service in 1957 with the creation of the 1st SAS Company. By 1964, an extra two companies had been added and the Company was renamed the Special Air Service Regiment.

How are TAG-East recruited?

Personnel for TAG-East are drawn from the Commando regiment, 4RAR. Recruiting procedures for this process are not publicly released in any great detail but it is generally understood that every Commando can have a go at it if deemed suitable and of sufficient tenure.
