Is Shimatta a bad word?

So is shimatta a “bad” word in Japanese? Kind of. Not really. There are some words in Japanese you probably wouldn’t want to say in front of grandma, but this isn’t one of them.

How do you use Shimatta?

Use as an Exclamation しまった[shimatta] by itself can be used as an exclamation for regretful feelings. It works like Oh no! or Dang it! , and people tend to say it when: they notice they have made a mistake. they suddenly remember something critical that they were not ready for.

Does Doki Doki mean love?

Doki doki means to feel your heart beat. That is usually a good thing and is usually when you are anticipating something wonderful about to happen. It’s an expression for “Heart Pounding”, the reason may be embarrassment, Love, Fear, etc. “Doki doki” basically describes a heart sound, presumably to note excitement.

It’s true that しまった often just means “oops” or “damn.”. The root sense arises from the verb しまう meaning to put away. In combination with another verb the sense develops into “I did it and put it away” in other words, it’s done now and can’t be changed.
