Is the CEM exam difficult?

It is important to note that the CEM exam is not easy. The average passing rate has consistently been about 70\% for the past 20 years. However, most test participants say it is tough but fair. To pass this exam, you must be able to interpret real world problems and solve them during a 4-hour exam.

How many questions are on the CEM exam?

130 questions
The exam will: be open book, last four hours, and have 130 questions to answer. Of the 130 questions, 120 are scored and 10 randomly located questions are trial questions being prepared for possible use on future exams. The 10 trial questions do not count toward the examinee’s score.

I think GL is easier to teach in a limited space of time whereas CEM favours children who have been taught from an earlier age. The bulk of the paper is literacy based (comprehension, antonyms, synonyms, cloze, jumbled questions, editing, etc) which is harder to teach or master in a short space of time.

Which is better CEM or GL?

For both verbal and numerical reasoning, the CEM exam aligns much more closely to the content of the KS2 National Curriculum than GL Assessment does. Again, individual regions and grammar schools can choose what subjects to test as part of their 11+ exam.
