A great villain should be a strong and worthy adversary to your hero. They shouldn’t be weak and easily beaten, nor should they be so powerful that they can only be defeated by random chance.

Why do we root for bad guys?
We’re rooting for every man who lies and cheats because they all have a character flaw that, when we analyze ourselves, we can see as a weakness in ourselves too. Though not many of us can relate to wanting to kill, we can connect because of the reason the anti-hero is committing the crime.
Are villains just misunderstood?
Sometimes, what people call villains are just… misunderstood. They aren’t necessarily evil or deliberately committing bad deeds, but rather, everybody around them assume that they are the “bad guy” simply because their ideas and goals might not mesh or because they mistakenly believe them to be aiming for bad things.
