Is using a pellet smoker cheating?

If the heat comes from electricity, and smoke is a byproduct, then it is cheating. If the heat comes from the wood, and electric only provides ignition, combustion fan and control, then it is not cheating, but some folks that use “stick burners” (wood guys) frown on pellet smokers.

Is smoking meat on a Traeger bad for you?

Burning wood pellets, poured by grilling expert Brendan Burek, into a chute on the left side of a Traeger grill, doesn’t necessarily make for healthier grilling. Cooking meats with charcoal or gas grills can cause the formation of compounds called heterocyclic amines (HCAs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).

Do all smokers use pellets?

Pellets can be used in both grills and smokers, although they are certainly more suited to smoking meats. Speaking of smoking meats, you can use wood pellets for both hot and cold smoking. Hot smoking is the traditional smoking process that you know and love, essentially using heat and smoke to cook the meat.

Are electric smokers cheating?
