Should I get a male or female kitten if I already have a male cat?

If you currently have an adult male, you should be able to bring in a male kitten without any trouble. Keep in mind, however, that there are some cats — male and female — who will not tolerate any others cats and need to be “only children!”

Will a male cat accept a male kitten?

Adult cats will usually accept a new kitten much more easily than they will accept a new adult cat. Cats are territorial, and your cat may resent an adult feline intruder. If you’re able to choose from a group of kittens, avoid a kitten that’s hissing, growling or engaged in serious battle with his mates.

Do male cats get along better with other males or females?

Gender. Male (neutered) cats are generally believed to be more accepting of other cats, both male and female. Even though this has not been my experience, female cats may not get along as well with each other.

Do ragdolls need another cat?

Ragdoll kittens are by nature very people oriented felines. They can be somewhat silly, crazy, nosy and persistent with their behaviours. Having 2 Ragdolls can be a benefit if you have other established cats in your home. Spunky little kittens can be a major annoyance to established cats in your household.

Do female cats get along better with male or female kittens?

A male and a female may not get along better than a pair of the same sex. Sex simply isn’t an accurate predictor of how well a pair of cats will get along. Instead, whether the cats are similar in temperament is more important. Cats that act the same are more likely to get along.

Is it better to have two cats of the same gender?

Cat lovers who desire two cats do best by getting two kittens, right at the beginning. If you have a young cat at home and want a second, consider adopting one kitten of the opposite sex, as same-sex cats are much more prone to fight each other for dominance.

Is it better to have two kittens of the same gender?

Is it better to get a male or female Ragdoll cat?

Many people say that male Ragdolls tend to be sweeter, but plenty of owners of female Ragdoll cats would say the opposite. Males are usually bigger, which is what a lot of pet owners are looking for in a Ragdoll cat. Females might have fewer issues with UTIs and blockage than males.

Do Ragdolls prefer one person?

Like other breeds, some Ragdoll cats do form powerful bonds with just one person, but not all do. Some Ragdolls prefer to spend time with all the family members in turn and may alternate their “favorite” person from time to time. If your Ragdoll starts bathing you, take it as a sure sign that it loves you!

Will an older female cat accept a kitten?

While older cats will occasionally take to a new kitten right away, they typically need a little time to adjust to the changes. Sometimes cats never fully accept a new kitten but will simply coexist, keeping to themselves away from the other cat in the house.

Is it better to get 2 kittens from the same litter?

When you bring home two kittens, they will have a built-in playmate. Both kittens can burn off extra energy by chasing, pouncing and play hunting each other throughout the house. Giving them an outlet for their kitten crazies means they’ll have less energy to engage in destructive behaviors like scratching the couch!

Should I get a male or female cat for my kittens?

You need to make sure the kittens get along with each other. If they are from the same litter, they probably will get along no matter what their gender. If they are from different litters, a male and a female is probably better unless they are very young.

Is it better to get two male kittens from the same litter?

Getting two kittens from the same litter, regardless of gender, can make it easier for them to befriend each other and play—but any two kittens generally tend to get on well after introductions. The only difference between males and females is that a neuter (male) costs less and is less invasive than a spay (female).

Do male and female cats get along well with each other?

In my experience male cats get along with each other more often than a male/female pair, or a f/f pair. This comes from someone whose has 30+ cats over the years. The males snuggle and play with each other, while the females hiss and want to be left alone by their cat siblings. Of course there’s exceptions to this.

Is it better to get a kitten or an adult cat?

If your adult resident cat is playful, healthy, sociable and energetic, then a kitten might be a good choice. Just be sure the kitten you choose is old enough to go through the introduction and isn’t put in a dangerous situation. Think about your resident cat’s personality in general.
