What are the similarities between BJT and FET?

A BJT or FET both shares the same category of transistors. These transistors have the property of both conduction as well as insulation. BJT, as well as FET, consists of three basic terminals in it. These transistors are found everywhere as the basic components of electronic systems.

The factor that generates the key difference between JFET and MOSFET is that a JFET operates in only depletion mode. While MOSFET operates in both depletion and enhancement mode. JFET is normally termed as ON devices. Due to small leakage current, the input impedance of MOSFET is much higher as compared to JFET.

Why the input impedance in FET is very high in comparison with BJT?

BJTs offer smaller input impedances, meaning they draw more current from the power circuit feeding it, which can cause loading of the circuit. FETs offer greater input impedance than BJTs. This means that they practically draw no current and therefore do not load down the power circuit that’s feeding it.

Why construction characteristic curves and equations of JFET are different as compared to Mosfet?

JFET have much smaller input impedance mainly of the order of 108 Ω. MOSFETs have much higher input impedance of about 1010 to 1015 Ω due to small leakage current. As JFET has higher drain resistance, the characteristic curve is more flatter. The characteristic curve is less flat than those of JFET.
