What bit depth should I export for mastering?

24
When mastering a song yourself, and when you plan to upload your music to streaming services, always export your song at a bit depth of 24 and make sure to apply dither. If your music distributor requires you to upload 16-bit files instead of, or in addition to 24-bit files, make sure that you apply dither as well.

Is 24-bit FLAC better than 16-bit?

24-bit / 192 kHz contains more data than 16-bit / 44.1 kHz, around 550\% more data. With 192 kHz, you can represent more sounds that are too high for people to hear.

Should my masters be 16 or 24 bit?

There is no difference in overall sound quality between 16-bit and 24-bit masters. The purpose of bit depth is to reduce the noise floor: 16-bits provides a substantially lower noise floor than all everyday listening environments, and as such is the best choice for finished works.

Can you hear the difference between 16-bit and 24-bit?

16-bit represents 96db and 24-bit can represent 144db. 24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded! If you are LISTENING to music, you will never hear any difference. If you will be doing any production on the music, i.e. recording, then you want as many bits as possible (usually 64) to give more room to play around with.

Is Lossless 24-bit?

Apple Music Lossless uses the ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) to retain all the information in the original CD-quality master. It starts at 16 bit, 44.1kHz and goes up to 24-bit, 48 kHz. No bluetooth device, not even Apple’s AirPods, can decode this format, so you’ll need wired headphones.

Does Youtube accept 24bit audio?

Bit Rate: 320kbps or higher for 2 channels (higher is always better; 256 kbps acceptable)…Audio Profile.

Attribute Specification
Sample rate 44.1kHz recommended. Higher sample rates are accepted but not required (for example, 48kHz or 96kHz).

Does Spotify accept 24bit?

Spotify Community Even though most distributors accept 48kHz sample rate / 24 bit audio or higher, Spotify converts all audio to 44.1kHz sample rate / 16 bit audio (please correct me if this is untrue).

Should my masters be 16 or 24-bit?

Should I use 16-bit or 24-bit audio?

If you choose 24 bit then you have a more dynamic range than with 16 bit and you have less trouble with room noise. It also gives you more space before the audio signal starts to clip. This is the main reason that 24 bit is advisable. As you have less chance that your recording will warp.

What is the bit depth of audio files?

The most common values of audio bit depth we find today are 16 bits and 24 bits. Here are some Sample Rates and Bit Depths of known media formats: CD: reproduces audio in 44.1kHz (Sample Rate) and 16 bits (Bit Depth); DVD: reproduces audio and video in 48 kHz (Sample Rate) and 16 or 24 bits (Bit Depth);

What is the difference between 16 bit and 24 bit depths?

Larger bit depths produce less noise. We should, therefore, think of the differences between 16 and 24 bit depths not as the accuracy in the shape of a waveform, but as the available limit before digital noise interferes with our signal.

What bit depth do I need for bouncing audio?

Any signal quieter than the noise floor will be masked by the noise floor. The most common bit depths for recording and bouncing audio are 16 bit and 24 bit. 16 bit provides each sample with 65,536 possible amplitude values. 24 bit provides each sample with 16,777,216 possible amplitude values.

What is bit depth and why does it matter?

Bit depth is all about noise, and the more bits of data you have to store audio, the less quantization noise will be introduced into your recording. By the same token, you’ll also be able to capture smaller signals more accurately, helping to drive the digital noise floor below the recording or listening environment.
