What causes facial dysmorphia?

The causes of the illness are poorly understood, however it is far more likely to occur in people who have been physically and/or emotionally abused as children. Additionally, evidence suggests that dysmorphia has a genetic component. Abuse in childhood has been associated with facial dysmorphia.

Does facial dysmorphia go away?

Body dysmorphic disorder usually doesn’t get better on its own. If left untreated, it may get worse over time, leading to anxiety, extensive medical bills, severe depression, and even suicidal thoughts and behavior.
