What do I need for basic mountaineering course?

The below is a list of all the things an individual can carry along:

  • Luggage Bags: A travel suitcase / bag, rucksack (70L – 105L) and a daysack (40L) can be used to carry all the things that will follow in the list.

What happens in basic mountaineering course?

Basic Mountaineering Course, offers basic orientation and skills in rock craft, ice craft, rope work, mountaineering awareness, expedition planning, outdoor survival, camp craft, wilderness navigation, exposure to glaciers and high Himalayan Ranges and a real climb to a high point or a peak.

How long does it take to complete the NIMAS mountaineering course?

In NIMAS its 28 days program. At the end of this course, you get a certificate. Only when you attain ‘A’ Grade in your certificate, you will meet the criteria of taking admission in Advance Mountaineering Course in any institute. If not, then you’ll need to do this course again.

What is the difference between Nim and NIMAS Dirang?

The waiting in NIM is 2 years while in NIMAS Dirang, it is 6 months. This is me doing the rock climbing descent at NIMAS Dirang in 2016. Just look at the view!

How to become a mountaineer in India?

After completing the Advanced Mountaineering Course (with a certain grade), one can apply for the Method of Instruction or/and the Search and Rescue course. Theory classes at Camp 0 (NIMAS campus) are an important part of the course. There are five nationalised mountaineering institutes in India which are considered to be the best.

This is because NIM is the best among all the Mountaineering institutes in India. There’s a huge rush just for the fact that in NIM the highest number of military personnel take part alongside civilians. And the Military is given priority.
