What do IB students do for CAS?
CAS should involve: Students using the CAS stages (investigation, preparation, action, reflection, and demonstration) to guide CAS experiences and projects. Thoughtful consideration, such as planning, reviewing progress, reporting (done on ManageBac). Evidence and reflection on outcomes and personal learning.
How many hours of CAS do you need for IB?
150 CAS hours
Creativity Action Service Requirements IB Diploma candidates are required to complete 150 CAS hours. These hours must be distributed in each of the three areas below. Projects may include two to three aspects and these projects are the most beneficial to students.
Can IB students play sports?
Yes. Many of our current IB students are varsity athletes. IB is a rigorous pathway, but organized students can excel at both sports and the IB DP.
What happens if you fail CAS IB?
CAS is internally assessed. A failure to complete and provide evidence for completion is considered a failing condition for the entire Diploma (although candidates are given another year to finish their CAS program if they fail, and if they complete it in this time they will receive their diploma.

Can I do my CAS project alone?
It requires active planning using the CAS stages (investigation – preparation – action – reflection – demonstration) as a framework. cannot be done alone. ✓ CAS students must complete at least one CAS project during their CAS programme.
How many CAS reflections do you need to pass?
More about Reflections…. You may write as many reflections and journal entries as you wish, but at least three written reflections (initial, mid-point and final) are required for long-term CAS experiences.
Can I fail IB because of CAS?
FAILING CONDITIONS: A student will NOT receive an IB Diploma if one or more of the following occur: CAS requirements have not been met. Candidate’s total exam & core points are fewer than 24. A grade E has been earned for the Theory of Knowledge oral exam and/or the Extended Essay.
What are the requirements for CAS?
Students must earn 50 CAS hours and completed as follows:
- 25 service hours.
- 10 creativity hours.
- 10 activity hours.
- 5 additional hours in any category, as long as the minimums are met.
How many experiences do you need for CAS?
Candidates need to demonstrate all seven Learning Outcomes to complete the CAS requirement for the IB Diploma. Some may be demonstrated many times, in a variety of experiences, but completion requires only that there is some evidence for every outcome.
What is a CAS project for an IB student?
CAS is designed to push students to show initiative, demonstrate perseverance and develop key skills such as collaboration, problem-solving and decision making. That being said, as an IB student, ideas for CAS projects should not feel like a drag. They should be both enjoyable and challenging – a personal journey to self-discovery!
