What does 5P10 mean in CT Electrical?

Similarly 5P10 can be explained as CT will sense the current with the specified accuracy of 5\% even with 10 times of its secondary current flows in the secondary. For example, if the CT is 1000/1 , then in case of fault, when the fault current is 10000A, then the secondary current is 10 A +/- 5\%

What does it mean by 5P20?

It means the maximum permissible error will be 5\% 20 = Accuracy limit factor indicates that the CT will sense the current with the specified accuracy even with 20 times of its secondary current flows in the secondary.

What is PS in current transformer?

PS stands for protection special which is defined by knee point voltage of current transformer Vk and excitation current Ie at Vk/2.

What is PX class in CT?

PS Class CT is also known as PX Class or simply Class X Current Transformer. It is special type of current transformer meant for protection purpose. Various protection class CTs as described in IS 2705 part-3 is only useful for overcurrent protection.

What is the difference between PS class and 5P20 CT?

the accuracy of PS class is not defined. generally used for unit protections differentials…. And a 5P20 CT means it will give a +_5\% error when it reads 20 times the rated current …which means when a fault happens more than the CT ratting upto 20 times it can measure with a 5\% errors with plus minus…

What is 5P20 in CT?

The Number ‘5’ indicates the accuracy of the CT. When the current flows through the 5P20 protection class CT is 20 times of the rated primary current, the CT reads within the composite error of 5 \%. If the current is above 20 times then the CT will saturate.

What is the class of CT?

The class designation is an approximate measure of the CT’s accuracy. The ratio (primary to secondary current) error of a Class 1 CT is 1\% at rated current; the ratio error of a Class 0.5 CT is 0.5\% or less. Errors in phase are also important, especially in power measuring circuits.

What class of CT is used for differential protection?

The PS class CT is special protection class CT. Both the PS class CTs used for differential protection have the identical saturation characteristics and their knee point voltage are the same. The designer takes the data like lead resistance, relay burden and system fault level from user before design of PS class CT.

What class of CT is preferable for differential protection?

The PS class CTs are used for differential protection. The differential protection is also called the zone or unit protection. The metering class CTs should not be used for differential protection.

What is the meaning of 5p20 CT?

And a 5P20 CT means it will give a +_5\% error when it reads 20 times the rated current …which means when a fault happens more than the CT ratting upto 20 times PS class used for protection purpose, where we need to be very carefully about saturation of CT.

What does 5p20 or 5p10 mean for a transformer?

The Meaning of 5P20 or 5P10 for a Instrument Transformer – Dec 24, 2019 – P = Protection Class 5 = Accuracy Number in percentage.

What is the difference between 5p10 and 5p20 circuit breakers?

Its application which differetiate the use of 5P10 and 5P20. If the breaker is used for backup protection say incommer etc you can use 5P20, but if it is say an incommer ACB/ MCCBof PMCC, you should use 5P10 only. In protection equipments, I have come across CT terminology as 5P10 or 5P20.

What does the number 5 mean on a CT scan?

The number 5 indicates the accuracy of the CT. Most common accuracy numbers are 5 and 10. secondary. This is required for protection CT, because the CT and Measuring CT. Based on this, the CT’s are classified. Here is the meaning of the CT classes: The letter ‘P’ indicates it is a protection CT. The number 5 indicates the accuracy of the CT.
