What does arming a bomb mean?

Arming a weapon is essentially giving the warhead consent to explode. An unarmed munition will not explode and, if launched or released, would eventually fall to the ground inert. On aircraft, weapons are not armed until just before takeoff, in order to prevent mishaps from posing a risk to airport personnel.

What is the difference between a bomb and a missile?

Bombs differ from artillery shells, missiles, and torpedoes in that the latter are all propelled through the air or water by a man-made agency, while bombs travel to their targets through the force of gravity alone.
