The name of the city of Chernobyl comes from the name of the grass better known as wormwood. Earlier, wormwood was called a “chernobylnik”. The stalk of the plant, or byl, is black. Hence the name – Chernobyl. In some villages on the territory of Ukraine and Russia, the wormwood is still called a chernobylnik.
