What does Qi mean for wireless charging?

Qi is the global standard for wireless charging. Its name comes from the Asian philosophy and means ”vital energy”; an intangible flow of power. Basically, the idea behind Qi is that all devices carrying the Qi logo are compatible with all Qi chargers.

Qi Is Just a Wireless Charging Standard It’s a format that’s maintained by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), and it aims to standardize wireless charging across all devices in the same way that the USB or Bluetooth standards have standardized data transmission across all devices.

Qi charging is already compatible with the latest models of smartphone, such as the iPhones 8, XS and XR and the Samsung Galaxy S10. As newer models become available, they too will have a Qi wireless charging function built in.
