What does restricted work mean on a residence permit?

It means that you can only work for your sponsor.

What documents prove your right to work in the UK?

Evidence to support your right to work in the UK

  • a passport showing that you are a British citizen or a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies and have the right of abode in the United Kingdom.
  • a passport or national identity card showing that you are a national of the European Economic Area or Switzerland.

Why is the Home Office issuing BRPs that are set to expire on 31 December 2024?

However, even BRPs issued since January 2021, in the new format, note a ‘valid until’ date of 31st December 2024 where the individual was granted indefinite leave to remain or leave valid post-31st December 2024. The reason for this is the Home Office wishes to move the process of confirming leave to a digital format.

Why does my BRP have an expiry date?

The Home Office has explained that the 31 December 2024 date reflects the fact that current BRPs do not incorporate the next generation encryption technology required by the EU for cards valid from1 January 2025. Currently all BRP cards must therefore have an expiry date of no later than 31 December 2024.

What is PBS Dependant?

A PBS dependant is someone related to a person who is in the UK on a Points-based (PBS) visa. PBS dependants can apply for a visa on the basis of their qualifying relationship, and will be subject to specific conditions during their stay, including becoming eligible to apply for indefinite leave to remain.

Can I re-enter the UK without a BRP?

1-‘No, if you leave the UK without a BRP, even if you have a letter issued by the UK Visas & Immigration stating that your visa was granted, you will not be allowed to re-enter the UK’ – the “explanation” given was, and I quote, ‘anyone could have printed such a letter’.

When do I have to inform my employer of my BRP?

It is advisable to collect your BRP before you begin employment in the UK, but if this is not possible you will be able to evidence your right to work in the UK using your 30-day travel vignette in your passport. You should then inform your employer once you have collected your BRP.

Can someone else pick my BRP for me?

Yes, but this is only possible if: You have a serious illness or disability which prevents you from collecting your BRP yourself; You are under the age of 18 and cannot collect your permit at the same time as your parent of legal guardian In order for someone else to pick your BRP, they must have either a British passport, an EU passport, or a BRP.
