What happens if a soldier is not on the border?

Firstly border patrolling is not the job of Indian Army. Secondly on such refusals the soldier will be charged with “ Displying utter cowardice on the face of the enemy” , and will be court marshaled, removed from the service without pension and gratuity, and jailed in the civil jail.

What happens if a soldier runs away from the army?

Desertion carries a maximum punishment of dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay, and confinement of five years. For desertion during a time of war, however, the death penalty may be applied (at the discretion of the court-martial).

If a service member was to commit these crimes off-base, and local law enforcement arrests he or she, they are still under the federal jurisdiction of the UCMJ. Therefore, the soldier will face his or her crime in federal military court; not civilian court.

There is no way to simply quit the military once you are on active duty. You are contractually, and perhaps morally, obligated to see your commitment through. However, you could be discharged from duty early if you are physically or psychologically unable to perform your duties.
