What happens if I get a tattoo before MEPS?

As a general rule, as long as the tattoos aren’t found to be offensive, then it generally isn’t a problem. But you may want to call and talk to a recruiter about it. Tattoos anywhere that are racist, sexist or offensive in any way are disqualifying. If it is removed, though, then you won’t have a problem.

Can you get tattoos while enlisted?

  • You CAN have a single tattoo on your neck, provided it’s less than 1″ in diameter.
  • You CAN have full sleeve tattoos.
  • Hand tattoos, including ring tattoos, are also allowed.
  • You CANNOT have tattoos on your head, face, ears, or scalp.
  • Offensive, racist, extremist, and sexist tattoos are NOT allowed.
