What if Ace defeated Blackbeard?
If Ace had beaten Black Beard at Banaro Island, the pirate would have been made untouchable. His status as a Shichibukai would have put serious pressure on the Marines, and Ace would have likely avoided his death during the Marineford saga.

Originally having given Luffy sound advice on being a pirate, Blackbeard attempted to capture Luffy for his second bounty but failed. When he learned of the latter’s third increase, he attempted to go after him but Ace caught up to him.

If Luffy was captured he would likely be locked away in Level 6 of Impel Down quitely. A public execution would not take place because it wouldn’t influence the world and would only draw unwanted attention.

Ace was defeated by Blackbeard bc Blackbeard’s darkness overcame Ace’s fire. Then Blackbeard turned in Ace to the Marines to become a Warlord. Ace was chosen to be executed to bring out Whitebeard and his crew to fight the Navy. The Navy also wanted to do this so they could execute justice in the world.

On a side note: Blackbeard never targeted Luffy for personal reasons. He originally wanted to kill Luffy to make a name for himself, but after he became a Warlord, he did not care much for Luffy any more.
What if akainu killed Luffy instead?
After Dragon avenges Luffy by killing Akainu(presuming he’s capable of doing so) He would come to peace with the loss of his son’s life, he would never return to the way he was, but laughter and emotion would slowly return to his life.
Does the Navy respect Luffy?
Freeing him from Alvida was a huge favor from Luffy, and if that wasn’t enough, his words of support moved Koby’s heart. Luffy is the biggest reason why he is a Marine right now, and the young Marine can’t help but admire the Straw Hat pirate for all that he’s done for him.
