What is the difference between the ACM and IEEE Computer societies?
Student members of ACM get full access to the ACM Digital Library. Student members of the IEEE Computer Society get limited access to the IEEEXplore digital library and discounted access to other IEEE publications. Note that in the case of IEEE, as far as I know, this only applies to the Computer Society, not IEEE as a whole.
Is it worth it to join IEEE Spectrum?
If you only read IEEE spectrum, and attend a handful of local chapter events per year, clearly it’s less expensive to buy the IEEE spectrum subscription, and pay the non-IEEE member fees at the events. If you read much of the academic journals, then a membership makes sense.
