What is an example of a BHA?

Beta Hydroxy Acids

What does PHA do for your skin?

BHAs clear up blackheads, whiteheads, and have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. This umbrella term includes the popular anti-acne ingredient of Salicylic Acid. BHAs also exfoliate the top layer but are best bought for their deep penetrative qualities.

Is hyaluronic acid a BHA?

Hyaluronic acid doesn’t function like an AHA or BHA in that it does not strip your skin — it’s actually highly nourishing and hydrating, so having “acid” in the name is a bit misleading. Hyaluronic acid is great for applying after any exfoliating acids.

Is glycolic acid a BHA?

What is the difference between BHA and PHA?

BHA (beta hydroxy acids), the most common of which is salicylic acid, is derived from willow tree bark, wintergreen oil or sweet birch. PHA (poly hydroxy acids) function the same as AHA, but cause less irritation due to their larger molecular size.

Can I use PHA every day?

You can use PHA products morning or night, but we recommend starting with nighttime in order to avoid any unnecessary inflammation during sun exposure. After about a week, you can up your usage to every other day, and after two weeks, you can certainly use a PHA every day if you feel like your skin needs it.

Do I need BHA?

If your issues are deeper, like cystic acne or just acne in general, you’ll want to use either BHA or an AHA/BHA combination, as it will likely be able to better penetrate the issue. For an issue like dry skin, however, AHA is your best bet.
