What is AOP pump?

The AC and DC auxiliary oil pumps which supply oil to bearings under start-up and normal shutdown, or under emergency shutdown respectively, are centrifugal pumps with a submerged suction.

What is a lube oil pump?

Lubricating oil pumps are used to supply oil to lubrication points, e.g. for plain bearings. They are submersible pumps which rest directly on the oil reservoir and have a throttling bush at the shaft passage, instead of a conventional shaft seal.

What is main oil pump?

The main oil pump is the one that delivers all the oil requirements for the turbine-generator at high pressure dur- ing normal operation. It is direct-driven from the turbine shaft and may be located at either the turbine or generator end of the shaft. For small units, the main oil pump is generally a gear pump.

What is barring gear in turbine?

Barring gear (or “turning gear”) is the mechanism provided to rotate the turbine generator shaft at a very low speed after unit stoppages. Once the unit is “tripped” (i.e., the steam inlet valve is closed), the turbine coasts down towards standstill.

What is GVC in steam turbine?

Get Latest Price. Gland vent condensers are used for the condensation of gland vent steam and main steam after expansion in turbines. The gland vent condenser is provided with centrifugal blowers to force the air out after steam is condensed.

What are the types of oil pump?

Types of the oil pump

  • Rotor oil pump. A rotor type of oil pump is also called a gerotor pump. It contains an inner gear that turns inside the outer rotor.
  • Twin Gear Pump. The twin gear pump is also known as an external pump.
  • Front cover oil pump. The front cover oil pump is also known as an internal or external pump.

What is hogging in turbine?

In the time it takes for a turbine to come to a complete stop following shutdown, the casing and rotor hardly cool down at all. This results in a greater contraction of the bottom of the rotor than the top. The differential contraction results in an upward bowing of the rotor called shaft hog.

What is the HP and LP stage of a steam turbine?

The first stage of the turbine is known as the “High Pressure (HP) stage,” and the second stage is known as the “Low Pressure (LP) stage.” As the HP phase completes, some steam is released. The remaining steam enters into the LP stage, where it is condensed further at low pressure.

How to use the auxiliary oil pump in the turbine?

Start the auxiliary oil pump (if provided) and circulate oil through the system. 2. Ensure that the oil temperature is 50°F to 70°F (10°C to 20°C) before operating the turbine. 3. Place all controls, trip mechanisms and other safety devices in their operative positions.

What is back pressure steam turbine?

Back Pressure Steam Turbine is also called as Non Condensing Steam Turbine is mostly used in process steam industries or co-generation plants. The non-condensing steam turbine uses high-pressure steam for the rotation of blades. This steam then leaves the turbine at the atmospheric pressure or Higher Pressure.

How much pressure does a steam turbine need to run?

It depends on what pressure the turbine is designed to run on. I have seen some large turbines run at about 600 psi at the steam chest. Chamber pressure drops off once the steam leaves the nozzle block and keeps dropping as it passes the buckets. In a condensing turbine, the steam pressure drops to near atmospheric pressure.
