What is ATX switching power supply?

An ATX power supply is typically controlled by an electronic switch. Instead of a hard switch at the main power input, the power button on an ATX system is a sensor input monitored by the computer. The ATX specification is the newer and more power efficient design.

Does it matter what PSU you get?

It will not affect the performance/quality/reliability of the unit. Quality most definitely matters. PSUs are likely the only component in a PC that can destroy other components when they fail if they lack proper overvoltage/overcurrent protections.

If you have a standard ATX PC case, chances are an ATX power supply will fit. But many higher-wattage PSUs are longer than the typical 5.5 inches. So you’ll want to be sure of your case’s PSU clearance.

What is a micro ATX PSU?

Micro ATX is a specification of the size of a motherboard, where its mounting holes are, what its power connectors look like, etc. An ATX PSU will connect to and power such a board. But some cases for microATX boards use smaller formats of PSU such as TFX, which will also plug into and power the board.
