What is ble hardware?

The technology enables smartphones, tablets and other devices to perform actions when in close proximity to a beacon. Bluetooth beacons use Bluetooth low energy proximity sensing to transmit a universally unique identifier picked up by a compatible app or operating system.

What is a ble compatible device?

Today, most smartphones and tablets are BLE compatible, which means they can seamlessly communicate with Bluetooth-enabled wireless headphones, digital signage, car stereos, fitness trackers, smartwatches, and hardware devices like beacons.

What is beacon protocol?

Just as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are standards of radio communication, beacon protocols are standards of BLE communication. Each protocol describes the structure of a data packet beacons broadcast. Currently, Estimote supports twelve protocols: Estimote Monitoring.

What is BLE connection?

Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is a low power wireless technology used for connecting devices with each other. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), however, was introduced in the 4.0 version of the Bluetooth specification in 2010. The original Bluetooth defined in the previous versions is referred to as Bluetooth Classic.

How do ble beacons work in smartphones?

With the whole system is in place, the BLE Beacons send out their signal. The smartphone either picks up the signal of the Beacon it is closest to or computes its position based on various Beacons’ signal strengths, allowing the user to position themselves on the map inside the app.

How accurate is indoor positioning using BLE sensors or beacons?

Both indoor positioning using BLE sensors or beacons can deliver location accuracy typically below 5 meters (with optimal conditions and deployment). Bluetooth, similar to Wi-Fi technologies, typically rely on signal strength (RSSI) to estimate the locations of devices.

What areble beacons and how they work?

BLE Beacons nowadays are only one-way communicators. That means they transmit signals, but are not able to listen and therefore also not able to perform any actions on their own. Neither can they send you messages, nor collect any information on the smartphone users.

How do ble sensors work?

These sensors passively detect and locate transmissions from BLE smartphones, asset tracking tags, beacons, personnel badges, wearables and other Bluetooth devices based on the received signal strength of the transmitting device. This location data is then sent to the central indoor positioning system (IPS) or real-time location system (RTLS).
