What is DVD Super Multi drive?

Super Multi-Format DVD is a proprietary format that records to both DVD and VHS, but can record in all currently available DVD recording formats: DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+R/DVD+RW/DVD+R DL and DVD-RAM.
