Full iBeacon protocol specification is available on developer.apple.com/ibeacon, in the “Artwork and Specifications” section. Most of the iBeacon packet is a 3-part identifier of the beacon, and these parts are: UUID, 16 bytes, usually represented as a string, e.g., “B9407F30-F5F8-466E-AFF9-25556B57FE6D”

How do rereceiving devices work with iBeacons?

Receiving devices can also connect to the iBeacons to retrieve values from iBeacon’s GATT (generic attribute profile) service. iBeacons do not push notifications to receiving devices (other than their own identity). However, mobile software can use signals received from iBeacons to trigger their own push notifications.

What is a beacon region and how does it work?

Rather than being identified by fixed geographical coordinates, however, a beacon region is identified by the device’s proximity to Bluetooth low-energy beacons that advertise a combination of the following values: Because a single beacon region can represent multiple beacons, beacon region monitoring supports several interesting use cases.
