What is low pass channel?

A baseband channel or lowpass channel (or system, or network) is a communication channel that can transfer frequencies that are very near zero. Frequency division multiplexing (FDM) allows an analog telephone wire to carry a baseband telephone call, concurrently as one or several carrier-modulated telephone calls.

What does the Nyquist theorem have to do with communication?

The Nyquist theorem established the principle of sampling continuous signals to convert them to digital signals. In communications theory, the Nyquist theorem is a formula stating that two samples per cycle is all that is needed to properly represent an analog signal digitally.

This theorem was the key to digitizing the analog signal. Nyquist’s work states that an analog signal waveform can be converted into digital by sampling the analog signal at equal time intervals. Even today as we digitize analog signals, Nyquist’s theorem is used to get the job done.
