What is nifty and equity?

Nifty stands for National Stock Exchange Fifty and is the equity benchmark index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE). These 50 stocks account for nearly 65\% of the total free-float market capitalisation of the index. Thence, Nifty reflects the performance of those top 50 stocks.

Who can buy equity shares?

As such there is as such no age restriction for investing in the stock markets of India. It’s just that you should be more than 18 years old to create a Demat account and a trading account. To open your Demat and trading account a PAN card is a must. And you can only apply for a PAN card if you are18 years or older.

Why has BSE reduced the tick size of the stock market?

However, in order to increase the liquidity and enable the market participants to put orders at finer rates, BSE has reduced the tick size from 5 paise to 1 paise in case of units of mutual funds, securities traded in “F” group and equity shares having closing price up to Rs. 15 on the last trading day of the calendar month.

What is the derivatives segment in BSE?

BSE has commenced trading in the Derivatives Segment with effect from June 9, 2000 to enable investors to hedge their risks. Initially, the facility of trading in the Derivatives Segment was confined to Index Futures. Subsequently, BSE has introduced the Index Options and Options & Futures in select individual stocks.
