What is open descent A320?
When you initiate an open descent, the thrust goes idle and the speed is maintained by the elevator. If the speed is to be managed by the FMGC, depending on the speed, the aircraft can go below or above the descent profile. It is like any other aircraft really.
What does decel mean A320?
The DECEL basically tells the aircraft that you are on approach. It will automatically set the speed based on your flap configuration.
What does open climb mean?
The OP CLB (open climb) annunciation is displayed when the Altitude Selector is pulled. The FCU altitude must be above actual altitude. Open climb commands pitch to maintain the managed or selected target speed.
What is open descent mode?
In open descent mode the auto-flight system adjusts the aircraft pitch attitude to maintain a set speed (selected by the crew on the FCU or programmed into the FMGS) with engine thrust at idle.
What is the descent rate of an airplane?
Idle descent in many jets is around 3,000 feet per minute until reaching 10,000 feet. There is a speed restriction of 250 knots below 10,000 feet, therefore the flight management computer will slow the aircraft to 250 knots and continue the descent at approximately 1,500 feet per minute.
What is the landing speed of an Airbus A320?
However, for a normal landing with passengers, an Airbus A320 would have a landing speed of about 125–145 kts IAS and with failures, it can go up to about 170 kts IAS as well.
What is decel point?
The Decel point is where the guidance begins the deceleration to VAPP, to be reached at 1,000 feet above touch down on the final descent path.
What is open descent?
When pulled, the altitude selector knob triggers an ‘open’ climb or descent. The term ‘open’ means that any intermediate altitude constraints within the active route computed by the FMGS are ignored. When in descent, it also means that idle thrust is selected and airspeed is controlled by the elevators.
Where is the autopilot in a320?
The state of the autopilot is shown in the top right of the primary flight display (PFD). The PFD either shows AP1 or AP2 or AP 1+2 when the autopilot(s) are engaged.
