Unlike bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold uses a different algorithm called ‘Equihash’. As Bitcoin Gold is designed to be more accessible than its fellow cryptocurrencies, it uses graphics processing units (GPUs) or graphic cards to allow people to mine.

Anyone can mine BTG with readily available graphics cards. Bitcoin Gold uses Equihash-BTG, also known as Equihash(144,5) or Zhash.

Its total supply is 17.1 million BTG. The Bitcoin Gold mainnet was launched on 12th November 2017 after running a successful testnet.
