What is the difference between submarine and nuclear submarine?

The main difference between conventional submarines and nuclear submarines is the power generation system. Nuclear submarines employ nuclear reactors for this task.

What is AIP submarine?

The air-independent propulsion (AIP) technology enhances the underwater endurance and stealth of conventional submarines who otherwise have to come on the surface to use oxygen to recharge their batteries. The 270 Kilowatt fuel cell-based AIP system will begin to be fitted on the Scorpene submarines.

Are nuclear submarines quieter than diesel submarines?

Are nuclear subs quieter? It depends. Diesel-electric subs are quieter while running in electric mode, but must at some point surface or pop up a snorkel to run their diesel engines and recharge the batteries. When the diesel engines are running, these noisier than nuclear-powered subs.

Who has the best submarine in the world?

Currently top 10 attack submarines in the world are these:

  • Nr.1 Seawolf class (USA)
  • Nr.2 Virginia class (USA)

  • Nr.5 Sierra II class (Russia)
  • Nr.6 Improved Los Angeles class (USA)
  • Nr.7 Akula class (Russia)
  • Nr.8 Soryu class (Japan)

Why are nuclear submarines better than diesel?

Does India have AIP submarine?

India is one of the few amongst the leading submarine operating navies in the world without an Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system on its submarines. In the Indo-Pacific itself, Japan, South Korea, China, Singapore and Pakistan are operating AIP fitted submarines.
